Her mother was employed at home and her father sold cars used by other people. Her mother is a German who immigrated into the United States from Germany in 1958. In 1989 Handler was diagnosed with cancer and died ten years following. Handler grew up in an Reform Judaism family. Her father was Jewish. Handler resided in a beautiful community with a wonderful upbringing. When she was in her early 20s she moved into Los Angeles in order to take on acting. Handler was an actor to earn a living for her family. Handler took the decision to pursue stand-up acting when she was 21, when she recognized her story telling abilities. Handler's career began as part of the all-female Oxygen television cast on the hidden camera/practical comedy reality series Girls Behaving Unsteadily. The series ran from 2002 to2005. Handler began appearing on various other programs such including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began working as a correspondent on The Tonight Show as a reporter. Handler was given her first major break as she hosted her E! Show in 2006. named The Chelsea Handler Show.
